There are thousands of results for a simple search; thus, it becomes a complicated process for students, especially to choose the material to study.
how To Use Google For Studies
Don’t rush to Google- one of the bad habits of people these days is that people have forgotten how to search from books. They just start googling things limiting their thinking capacity.
Use a secure connection – before you start your search, make sure your connection is secure; try to use a VPN or your data instead of public Wi-Fi.
Use of Google chrome- do not use Google chrome for your search as your Google account is linked to Google chrome, and your search can be saved.
Always use a desktop or laptop if possible as some sites do not open fully on phones.
Use of desktop mode – if you don’t have a desktop or laptop, you can use desktop mode on your mobile to easily access sites.
Simple search – always start your search with superficial results.
Use of tabs – always use Google tabs for your search, as it will give you options like images, web search, and news, which help you broaden your results.
Use of Google Voice assistance- there are words you don’t know how to spell but can pronounce, Google Voice assistance will come to your rescue.
Use of Google Books – this chrome allows you to see the many full-text digital books available to use.
Use of Google scholars- it significantly helps the student in research work by providing full-text articles, research papers, and books.
Google advance search- it helps you to narrow down your search by changing some settings.
Google’s least Google lens can be used to search for images about which you have no clue.
Slide Share- using the slide. The share will bring all the slides ever made on that particular topic.
Google Translators- you can use Google Translator to translate your search into your language.
Boolean search items – use of Boolean terms such as “AND,” “OR,” “NOT” will help you to get more authentic and error-free results.
Domain restrictions- restrict your domain search to what you are looking for by indicating what site you need.
Unnecessary words – don’t use unnecessary words as it may broaden your search results, leading to unwarranted searches.
Be careful while choosing the word – while selecting the name for your search, be very careful. Try to choose the terms which will appear in your search for sure.
Synonyms – sometimes, Google is not able to search a word. Try to search for it by using a synonym.
Google does not search for plural words; to search plural words, you must use the Boolean search to search effectively.
(Power of +) – if you want to use common words, then put a + sign between them for better results.
Save the bookmarks– save the pages as bookmarks you think need for future use as it will help you save some time.
Usually, Google ignores the punctuation marks used for searches, pause as they are not the part of search operators.
Do not use spaces between the words as spaces are not recognized by Google.
Use of quote- use of words inside the “will help you feed the exact words.
Use of @- if you want to search for social media, then put @in in front of the word, and boom, you will get results according to your need.
Entitle- use the word entitle before your search to get the specific results. E.g., bakery shops: entitle Delhi.
Allintitle – allintitle will include all the words that you have searched. E.g., allintitle: how to cook.
Use of hyphen- put a hyphen (-) to exclude the unnecessary search.
Don’t worry about the spelling mistakes or capitalization of words as Google mostly ignore the spelling mistakes and shows similar results with 99% accuracy.
Use of colon- it will help you take to a particular site you want to visit. E.g., cancer medicine: PubMed, it will search about the cancer medicines available on PubMed.
Find the pages that link to other pages– e.g., if you want to search for an article on the quint, then search link: quint.com.
Find the sites related to other areas – e.g., related: PubMed. It will help you to search for sites similar to PubMed.
For math- just simply put the math equation you want to solve, and it will give you the correct answer or sometimes will give you an advanced calculator.
Look for a range – for e.g. 54. .77; it will help the people mostly related to statistics or account to search for several fields.
Search terms- don’t put the whole sentence in one go; search the sentences gradually as it will help you bring more authentic results.
Shortcuts- there are many shortcuts available in Google search, which can be used for more narrowed results. E.g., the weather zip code will help you get the weather conditions of the zip code you have put.
Use more descriptive words to optimize your search. E.g., cookie baking will bring the results related to the baking of cookies.
Specific file – sometimes, we need a specific file that can be searched using file type search. E.g., cancer cells: file type::pdf.
Conversions- there are conversions such as km to m, liter to ml are available, which can be used to solve problems.
Formula sheets- there are many formula sheets available on the internet which you can download or print and can use as it is for reference.
Books – if you don’t want to buy costly books or carry heavy books around, then don’t worry; Google has excellent books available which are free to download can be used.
Question paper- if you are preparing for different exams, then you don’t need to buy other question papers. All are available on the internet.
Video lectures are available free to watch; you can prepare for any exam with their help.
Create a Google Classroom – here, you can share the work with all your classmates without sending them everything individually.
Use Google Drive – use Google drive to upload your work, as it will be automatically saved in your Google account too.
Use asterisk- use * when you don’t remember something, and Google will know what you are looking for.
Around (10) – it will specifically help you search phrases or sentences that are quite similar in many places, but you don’t know where to look precisely.
Set the range – you can set the period, place to get the narrowed results from a particular date and time.
Use of in – it can be used for straightforward conversion. E.g., bye in French.
Shrub – in this site, all the research papers are available to download that free of cost. All you to do is put the DOI number from the research paper you want.
Set Google alerts – you can set the Google search alerts for your frequent searches so that you can get the notification next time anything new occurs.
How to search definitions- Search definitions or terms. You can use the words define and term before your search to get the specific intentions.
Images – always use a high-quality image to give a pleasing effect even in your project.
Be patient – while searching, be patient as there are millions of results available even for a simple search; thus, it may take some time.
