The value of the environment is taught to us from the neonatal stage. We have been taught ways we can support and contribute to the change. But often, due to our mechanical lives, we fail to meet up to those points. Here are some tips that you can use if you really want to bring a change.

Be the change you want to see- Instead of correcting others or giving suggestions, start applying them yourself. You never know when your change may influence others.
Start with small goals- Big changes don’t come in a day, try and start with very small steps. Chalk out a plan that you want to see changed in 7 days and take action accordingly.
Write down what you want to change- This is a vital step before you start working to change the environment. If it’s about changing the surroundings, making it cleaner, or is it innovating a sustainable change in all.
Use your car less- If not absolutely necessary, avoid boarding your car. Cars, no matter how efficient they are with the latest technology, do harm the environment in some amount.
Plant trees- Make a habit of planting trees, be it in your garden or beside the roadways. You may not feel the importance of planting them now, but your future generations will surely thank you.
Correct yourself before correcting others- Be sure that no one can point out your flaws when you go to preach about the environment. You must have all the points checked about being environmentally friendly.
Small apartments can also have multiple useful plants- You can now dump the thoughts that living in a small apartment would mean no planting of trees. There are multiple plants that can be kept indoors as well on the windows.
The green consumer is what you must be- Whenever you have to make a choice, choose what is green. Be sure everything that you buy or use or even gift others are favorable for the environment.
Consume less red meat- Consumption of red meat is harmful to individuals as well as it is going to add to the loss of the environment. Try shifting to other options of protein that are healthier for both.
See where you are investing your money- We often read articles and get influenced and start following them blindly. It includes fashion, décor, or dietary changes. Be certain that you are not investing in harming the environment.
Spend time thinking of green ideas- We fail to understand our potential at times, and we keep on depending on what others suggest. Give the importance of your own idea as well, read, get inspired and work.
Avoid things that contain carbon- Carbon is readily converted into carbon dioxide in the presence of oxygen given suitable conditions. It is one of the major contributors to global warming.
Take your bike to work- Changes are as small as this; if you are traveling alone, it is better to avail a bike instead of a 4-wheeler.
Make a habit of walking- The easy access to different modes of transformation has snatched the habit of walking. Going to the shops in your locality or market nearby on foot is healthier in all ways.
Until otherwise impossible, use public transports- Only if you are sick or it is urgent use your own transport, traveling in public transports helps save a huge amount of fuel every day.
Make your colleagues also your travel partner- Living in the same locality? Share your transport to the office, and it will give you a partner to talk to during the journey and also help save the environment.
Shop virtually if the market is inaccessible without personal vehicles- The covid-19 has already made us accustomed to the virtual modes of shopping; adhering to it post-pandemic will be a bonus.
Reduce food wastage- Cook as much as required. Do not cook extra, and it may often get spoiled and need to be thrown away.
Keep a record of what is the extra grocery, avoid it- If some vegetables from the last week had to be thrown away, keep a record of it. Next week buy the quantity less by that amount.
Beware of expiration dates- We often stock a huge amount of products influenced by some discount or sale. Before such mass buying, kindly check the expiry date of the products and be sure they will be used up before that.
Make new dishes from leftovers- Leftover rice or chapati can be used to make fresh dishes. The rice can be stir-fried with some veggies, or you can make a roll-out of the chapatti.
Recycle and reuse the bottles or cans- The newest trend is to make planters out of the old bottles or cans. This is the best way you can simultaneously add to the beauty of your house and change the environment.
Avoid use and throw things- The concept of “use and throw” is quite prevalent, but it is not always beneficial. It adds to the waste accumulated in the world.
Try growing some veggies at home- Growing your own food is one of the new challenges brought in by social media. It will make you realize a percent of the efforts put in by farmers.
Do not demand food or products that need a lot of traveling- Choose locally grown vegetables or other foods. Food products that have to travel a long way harm the environment at different levels.
Choose an organic diet- This is a vital step towards the change in the environment. Eliminating the use of heavy pesticides shall help protect the environment.
Initiate community work- There’s no harm if you are the first one wanting to start a go green program. Motivate others, and you will surely get someone like-minded.
Sift to the use of jute bags- This practice is trying to be inculcated for years. It’s high time that we replace all plastics with jute bags that are sustainable.
Do not buy extra furniture- Dumping out extra furniture should be avoided. It creates unnecessary waste for the environment. Buy only what you would continue needing in years to come.
You can try the second-hand market- Beautiful things can sometimes be retrieved from a second-hand market. The notion that second-hand things are always bad in quality is not true.
Donate the things you won’t need anymore, or you have replaced them- Instead of throwing them away, it is always better to donate them to someone who needs them and will make better use of it.
Prefer purchasing less packaged food- Go for making food at home using raw vegetables and meat from the market. Packaged foods contain preservatives that are not good for health and also harmful to the environment.
Shift into drinking water from aqua-guards from bottled ones- The plastic used for making bottled water is of low quality and quite dangerous for the environment. Stick to avoiding it.
Dispose off the electronics carefully- E-waste disposal management is crucial for any environment. Never throw it in the open.
Switch off lights and fans when not in use- Saving electricity is a boon for the bills and also saving it helps the environment by reducing its demand and hence generation.
Prepare compost- Instead of throwing away vegetable peels, leftover food and adding to the garbage, use some earth along with it and keep it aside in a pot. It will turn into useful compost by the end of the month.
Do not buy cheap cars, and fuel efficiency is a must- We often care for the budget and not the environment. If you need to buy a car, make sure it is not decremental to the environment.
Leaving the tap open is a bad practice- From early school days, we have been taught not to leave taps open. This practice must be avoided in order to save essential and scarce water.
Volunteer and participate with NGOs to work- If you really want to make some change, go ahead, join the communities that are working to build the change.
Use bulbs that have a longer life- There are bulbs that have a short life and need to be changed frequently; it adds to the e-waste. Shift to the use of bulbs that have a longer validity.
Educate whoever seems interested- You cannot influence everyone nor expect everyone to work for the environment. It is better to invest your time in people who seem interested.
Use the sunlight effectively- Sunlight can be used for multiple purposes, depending on the intensity of the light; one can use it to generate electricity, cook food using solar panels and solar cooker, respectively.
Motivate innovations- If you get a chance to contribute to some revolutionary ideas. Do help them. Financial support is also important.
Take the lead in the change and slowly let the thought fade away- As long as you keep on thinking that this is another responsibility to be taken, you will be pulled back. Make it a part of your daily life.
Fix water leaks- If you find water leaking from any place, be it in your house or outside, make immediate arrangements to fix them.
Keep your garden clean- Having a garden is not enough; keep it clean and pesticides free is equally important. Rodents, harmful insects are not that good.
Keep flowers that attract insects- Insects and other wildlife are major forces that drive a change in the environment. Growing such flowers is adding to the goodness of the environment.
Bringing a change is not a one-day work. It needs perseverance and continuous motivation to finally reach the goal. Following the above tips shall make your work a little easier, but you have to continue feeding your thoughts to make a change in order to act accordingly.
